Free English and IT Classes for Under-Privileged Students

Salom Fund works with local educational centers in Khujand and Buston to offer free English and IT classes for low-income and under-privileged students.

Extra Tutoring at Orphanage Schools

Salom Fund works with a local orphanage in Buston, Tajikistan to provide funding to hire additional tutors for high school students in subjects such as English, Russian, biology, history, chemistry, and mathematics, to help them prepare for university entrance exams. With the help of this program, the orphanage has had a 100% university acceptance rate for its graduating seniors for the last three years. Students are now studying medicine, IT, and graphic design at the university level, among other majors. Several students achieved full scholarships to prestigious universities in Tajikistan and Russia.

School Renovations

Prior to incorporating as a non-profit organization, the members of then-Club Salom worked to raise funds for a major renovation of the orphanage in Buston, Tajikistan. For information about these project, please check out our previous blog: Buston Orphanage Renovation Project.

Salom Fund is currently working to complete a project begun by Club Salom: the ongoing renovation of School #12, a public school in Khujand. The school was built in the 1970s and has been minimally renovated since. The grandmother and great-grandfather of several members of Club Salom taught chemistry and biology at the school for decades, and the group chose this project to honor them.

Salom Fund is working to replace outdated and broken windows with modern, energy-efficient ones to improve the comfort and health of students, and to improve the energy-efficiency of the building. As of April 2025, we have replaced approximately 75% of exterior windows in the school, and we plan to finish the remainder in summer 2025. Teachers at the school have reported that their classrooms are brighter and warmer in winter, and that students are missing fewer classes due to illness in classrooms where the renovations have been completed.

Here is a video taken in April 2025, shortly after completing window replacement in the third wing of the school, showing some of the classrooms that have been renovated:

Salom Fund has also funded additional renovations to some classrooms, including the chemistry and biology classrooms, and purchased educational technology to modernize instructional methods. Here is a video in which one of the teachers discusses some of the additional renovations that have been made with Salom Fund’s help:

We plan to expand this program to other schools soon.
